Quarantine Services

Port Melville works in co-operation with the Australian Government Department of Agriculture to implement quarantine controls at Australia’s borders to protect against the risk of exotic pests and diseases entering Australia. This protects Australia’s $32 billion agriculture export industries as well as our unique environment and native flora and fauna.

Planned facilities will include an Australian Quarantine Inspection Services approved wash-down, fumigation and inspection facility, and a designated quarantine holding area.

Waste that is offloaded from vessels at Port Melville that present a potential biosecurity risk will be managed and treated by Port Management in accordance with the Department Of Agriculture, Northern Territory Government and Tiwi Islands quarantine requirements.
